Kerman alleys

The main features of Kerman alleys in Qajariyeh era were their short width and being surrounded by long walls of houses and the presence of Sabat( some structure lik a bridge or celling that connected two walls to protect people from sunshine and the falling of snow and rain). Still in some old neighborhoods of Kerman such as Shahr (city)neighborhood and zartoshtian (Zoroastrian) could be observed Two reasons can be provided for the shortness of the width of Kerman alleys and the great height of the walls of the houses in that past, One reason is the geographical position of the region and the unbearable coldness and hotness in summer and winter also strong winds that bring sand particles with them. These reasons made it necessary to have alleys with short width and  long walls of houses. The other reason is increasing security precautions at the time of enemies attacks that made it necessary to have houses with long walls.

The number of narrow alleys were so much that have been refereted to comically as peace making alleys. The reason for referring to the alleys as this is due to the issue that if two neighbors or two of the residents of a neighborhood due to some reason have been in bad terms and some indignation has been there between them if they see each other in these alleys then they cant pretend not seeing each other and passing by ignorantly because of the shortness of the width of alleys. So this unavoidable face to face visit ended in saying salam(hello) and greeting each other so this consequently leaded to the removing of the problem and establishung peace between them.
